Boeing Satellite Systems is hosting an EE Department tour of its 1,000,000 square foot satellite factory in El Segundo, CA (near LAX). The tour will also include the Electronic Products design, manufacturing and test area as well as an opportunity to meet hiring managers and other Cal Poly alumni. Boeing’s satellite business group is actively recruiting recent/upcoming college graduates to work on systems like O3b. O3b provides wideband communications to the “Other 3 Billion” people in the southern hemisphere (not US, Europe or China). Its “super-powered” mPower satellites will have 30,000 fully shapeable and steerable beams, making it the world’s most bandwidth-efficient satellite system.
To participate in the tour, you’ll need to be a US Citizen, sign standard waivers and provide a refundable $5 deposit to Lani Woods (exact change only). Transportation and lunch will be provided. Meet the van(s) for on campus at 7:00 am (travel plus tour will take all day, so you’ll also miss any classes on the 9th). You must sign up by October 31st. Tour coordinator and EE lecturer Steve Dunton can provide more information.
Boeing will accommodate up to 30 students on the tour and priority will be given to upper division EE students.
